I am head of French at Bangor University in Wales (UK) and have set up this blog in order to share posts that concern contemporary issues in France that are part of my research. As I mention of my university staff profile, my research primarily concerns cultural representations of minority groups in France. This involves focusing in particular on immigration, integration and social cohesion.
I am the author of a book entitled Cinema and the Republic: Filming on the Margins in Contemporary France that was published with the University of Wales Press in 2013. To see a review of this book that appeared in the the journal Modern and Contemporary France, click here. I have also published articles on representations of French national identity and diversity in the fields of sport, music and comedy.
